Corrosion Mitigation & Cathodic Protection System Installation

📌 Project Summary

This project involves the engineering, deployment, and commissioning of an advanced Cathodic Protection (CP) System to safeguard critical metallic infrastructure from electrochemical corrosion. Underground and submerged assets—such as pipelines, storage tanks, and structural pilings—naturally degrade when exposed to soil and moisture. This project installs a dedicated electrochemical defense system that neutralizes corrosive currents, halting material loss, eliminating structural wall thinning, and preventing catastrophic environmental leaks.

⚙️ Core Objectives
    • Corrosion Elimination: Control the electrochemical potential of the target structure to completely arrest oxidation and rust formation.
    • Asset Life Extension: Extend the operational lifespan of high-value steel assets by decades, maximizing capital investment returns.
    • Environmental & Structural Safety: Prevent hazardous product releases, pipeline ruptures, and structural failures caused by localized pitting corrosion.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with international anti-corrosion standards (e.g., NACE/AMPP, ISO, or ASTM standards).

🛠️ Scope of Work
    • Phase 1: Soil Resistivity & Potential Surveys – Mapping ground chemistry and measuring baseline structure-to-soil electrical potentials to determine current demand.
    • Phase 2: Groundbed Excavation & Anode Bedding – Drilling deep or shallow vertical wells to install highly conductive anodes surrounded by carbonaceous backfill.
    • Phase 3: Hardware & Transformer Installation – Mounting and wiring Cathodic Protection Rectifiers, distribution junction boxes, and surge diverters to regulate current flow.
    • Phase 4: Monitoring Station Setup & Commissioning – Installing permanent test posts along the asset corridor, energizing the system, and tuning output currents to achieve the required protection criteria (e.g., the -850mV polarized potential shift).

đź’ˇ Expected Impact
Once activated, this cathodic protection framework provides continuous, maintenance-free corrosion shielding across the entire target infrastructure. The integration of localized test posts allows field technicians to easily monitor system health, record regular potential readings, and ensure uninterrupted structural safety.
